Who We Are

Hans graduated in Management Economics and Law from The Hague University of Applied Sciences in 2004 and completed his second degree in Built Environment Management at Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences in 2008. He started his career in the real estate sector in 2008 as a valuer and quickly developed into a partner within an international real estate organisation. During his time as a valuer, he led the BOG team and was responsible for various fund, portfolio and bank valuations. In 2016, he became a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (Chartered Valuation Surveyor) and a registered valuer with the Real Estate Valuers Register of the Netherlands (NRVT).

After working successfully as a valuer for over nine years, he moved to the capital markets team where he headed the retail capital markets team and was involved in several retail investment transactions. In his later years at Cushman & Wakefield, he held the position of Sector Head Retail and was a member of the Executive Board (EXCO) of Cushman & Wakefield Netherlands.

Barzien started his career in the real estate sector at Cushman & Wakefield in 2014, after completing a bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Building and Planning and a master’s degree in Real Estate Management & Development at Eindhoven University of Technology, which he also partially completed at the University of Amsterdam at the chair of Real Estate Finance. His thesis ‘Fragmented Ownership in Shopping Centres’ won the NRW Thesis Award in 2016.

After working as an NRVT-registered valuer for several years, Barzien joined Cushman & Wakefield’s Capital Markets department in 2017. At this department, he specialised in the purchase and sale of retail properties for a variety of clients ranging from national and international institutional investors to local private investors. His most recent position at Cushman & Wakefield was Head of Retail Capital Markets Netherlands.

Barzien has established himself as a leading professional in recent years. He has a particular focus on retail property transactions and property investments.
